Amuse Network publishes general information and commentary about networking technology, internet infrastructure, media delivery and professional relationships. This page explains the limits of what that information is — please read it before acting on anything you find here.
General information only
Everything on this site is published for general informational and educational purposes. It is not professional advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified person who knows your specific circumstances. Your network, your building, your contract, your budget and your risk tolerance are not the ones we had in mind when writing. Before making a decision that matters, consult someone who can look at your actual situation.
In particular, nothing here is legal, financial, tax, employment, security-assurance or professional engineering advice.
Accuracy and currency
We research against primary sources — standards documents, RFCs, regulatory filings, vendor specifications and published research — and we work hard to get things right. Even so:
- Networking moves quickly. Standards are amended, firmware changes behaviour, products are discontinued and prices, plans and regulations change. An article that was accurate when published may not be accurate when you read it.
- Published specifications describe what equipment can do under stated conditions. Your real-world results will differ, sometimes by a lot, because of interference, building materials, congestion, distance, client hardware and how your provider has configured its network.
- We make mistakes. We correct them visibly — substantive corrections are noted at the foot of the article with a date and a description of what changed.
We make no warranty, express or implied, that the content is complete, accurate, current or suitable for any particular purpose.
Technical instructions and configuration changes
Some of our articles describe changes to router settings, network configuration, cabling and similar. Follow them at your own risk. Changing network or security settings can interrupt your service, expose a network, void a warranty, or breach your provider’s terms. Running cable involves working with building structures and, in some cases, electrical infrastructure — work that may be regulated in your jurisdiction and may require a licensed professional. Back up your configuration before you change it, and stop and get help if you are not confident.
Security content
Articles about network security are written to help you understand and defend systems you own or are authorised to administer. Nothing here is an invitation to test, access or interfere with a network you do not have permission to touch — doing so is a criminal offence in Canada under the Criminal Code and under comparable laws elsewhere. Following our guidance does not make a system secure, and we do not warrant that it will prevent any particular attack.
Products, vendors and standards
Where we name a product, vendor, protocol or provider, it is for identification, explanation or commentary. A mention is not an endorsement, and the absence of a mention is not criticism. Trademarks and product names belong to their owners and their use here does not imply affiliation with or sponsorship by them. Any opinion expressed is the author’s assessment at the time of writing.
Research and studies
Where we describe published research — including work on professional networks and weak ties — we report what the study found under the conditions it examined. Social-science findings describe average effects across populations, not predictions about you. Effect sizes are often modest and findings are sometimes revised or fail to replicate. Treat them as evidence to weigh, not instructions to follow.

We link to external sites so you can check our sources and read further. We do not control those sites, we are not responsible for their content, accuracy or availability, and a link is not an endorsement of everything on the other end of it.
