Response times

  • Corrections — we aim to acknowledge within one business day and to publish a correction or an explanation within three.
  • General enquiries and pitches — usually within three to five business days.
  • Privacy requests — acknowledged within five business days and answered within thirty days, as required under Canadian privacy law.
  • Copyright notices — reviewed promptly; see our DMCA Policy for what a valid notice must contain.

Reporting an error

This is the message we most want to receive. To help us act on it quickly, please include:

  1. The URL of the article.
  2. The specific sentence or figure you believe is wrong.
  3. What you believe the correct information is.
  4. A source, if you have one — a standards document, an RFC, a vendor specification sheet or a published paper is ideal.

Substantive corrections are published at the foot of the article with the date and a note of what changed. We do not silently edit errors out of existence.

Pitching an article

Send a short outline rather than a finished draft: the argument, the sources you intend to use, and one sentence on why you are the person to write it. We look for writers who have worked with the technology or the subject directly. Full details are on the Write for Us page.

What we do not respond to

To be straightforward about it: we do not reply to unsolicited guest-post offers with pre-written articles attached, requests to insert or buy links in existing articles, “we noticed a broken link on your site” outreach, or press releases sent to editorial addresses. Paid placement is not something we sell in editorial content — advertising enquiries belong at [email protected] and are handled under our advertising terms.

A note on what you send us

Information you include in an email — your name, address and anything else you choose to write — is handled in line with our Privacy Policy. Please do not send confidential or sensitive personal information by ordinary email. Unless you tell us otherwise in writing, we may quote correspondence in a published correction or follow-up, without your email address or other contact details.
